In the beginning of time there were the Four. They were mages, which devoted their time and energies into harnessing the magic of the elements. Their names have been lost in the mists of time, but they are revered as Gods for the work that they did in allowing the elves of today to use their special gifts.
They changed the land to suit them the best, and even though they built their own castles to suit their own elements, they kept ties with one another. In order to stabilise the rather volatile land in which they lived on, they had to combine their magicks regularly. This often led to great amounts of excess energy being released with nowhere to go.
It was during one of the sessions that the first Elves were created. Five of them, all standing true and proud and filled with the magic of the Four.
The first was Phish, the wielder of fire. He took his place with the Fire Mage and he learnt from him, exploring the mysteries of the element of Fire.
The second was Leith, the water-dancer. He learnt from the Water Mage the secrets of the liquid element.
The third was Lorug, the earth-healer. He learnt from the Earth Mage the properties of plants, how to listen to them speak and how to heal the sick.
The fourth was Tiu, an adept of the weather. He learnt from the Wind Mage, how to control and manipulate the weather around us.
Then, the final elf was Valuk. Him, the elders did not know what to do with. He possessed all the elemental powers that the other four elves did; yet they weren’t as strong. What Valuk’s asset was was his mind. He was intelligent enough to rival those of the Four. Therefore they gave him a special name, Sharorr, and set in place guidelines for what would happen when the Four Mages disappeared into the shadows.
More and more children were spawned from the Four’s power, and then they were joined by the First Apprentices, Phish, Leith, Lorug and Tiu. The small communities of the elves began to grow, centred in and on the elemental castles that the Four built. However, there were no more children, which had the same magical qualities as Valuk did.
Valuk wasn’t too bothered the fact that he was the only one of his race, as he found a mate among the growing numbers of elementals. The gender and the elemental powers of his mate were lost in history, but they produced a few children. Some were sent off to other castles to train their magic; the others remained with their parents.
As the numbers of elves grew, the Four began to withdraw back into the shadows. Some say that they are still out there, keeping the land stable and controlling the flow of magic back and forth. But the majority of elves believe that the Four’s time was up, and they disappeared off the face of the earth, leaving the elves to do what they wanted.
After the first few thousand years since the Four disappeared, the growth of the elvish population tapered off and almost came to a standstill, with only a few children born every year among all of the castles. However, that was no cause for worry, as the elves were long-lived. Some of the newcomers to the continent where they had made their home, labelled the elves as being ‘immortal’, when in reality everything must die at some stage.
Thousands of years went by. The lords of the elemental castles changed, as did the king and their descendants took up places of power. And then… tragedy struck. The king passed away without an heir to take his place. Now, the lords were pulled into chaos as to who was going to rule.
It would only be a matter of time before a new king was placed on the Sharorr Throne.
