Name: Merenwen Calaelen
Age: 1170
Gender: Female
Element: Air, Su'aco
Magical Rank: Master
Army Rank: Merenwen is Lady of Su'aco, leader of its forces.
Appearance: Merenwen has short hair, blonde and tinged with a light blue. She cuts it short so that the wind will not tear it when she casts magic, as even when she fastens it in a tight braid, the wind will rip it out of its bindings. Her eyes are a pale blue-green, almost grey at times. Her gaze is lucid, clear, and sharp, capable of being as kind as a gentle summer breeze, or as harsh and unforgiving as a brutal winter storm.
Her skin is pale and soft, her face round and kind. She loves all those in her domain, caring for the safety of each like her own child. Merenwen favors simple garments, sometimes masculine and sometimes feminine. She is not opposed to wearing either trousers or dresses, and has been known to wear both. She does not, however, wear anything with excess frills, or anything excessively loose-fitting, preferring her garments to be more sleek, so that the wind cannot catch them, either by her own magic, or when checking upon her country's mages during practice.
Merenwen carries herself by standing and sitting up straight, her gaze fixed firmly ahead, unless by necessity she must look in a direction to watch one of the Su'aco elves. Her mouth may easily find its way into either a gentle smile, or a determined frown. She is slightly shorter than the average elf, but exudes a presence of greatness that bring many, even the unwilling, to their knees.
Personality: Merenwen is a very motherly figure to everyone in her region, but especially the military. Because she is the Lady of Su'aco, she's often barraged for orders regarding both military and domestic affairs. Because of this, she may show no favoritism to either civilians or the military, but because of her position, she is more familiar with the military than the civilians, if only because she lives near them.
To leaders of other regions, she may appear weak, and often tries to get the other leaders to negotiate compromise, but when it comes to safety of her citizens, there are none more fierce or unforgiving than Lady Calaelen. She has been known to make bold moves, what some would call reckless, when the safety of her region was in jeopardy, but for the most part, she's very even-headed. Still, crossing Merenwen is something that has been proven to be a bad idea, and certainly not encourageable if one isn't prepared for the consequences.
Being a single mother and leader of a country is not easy. Certainly, before her husband died, Merenwen's life was much easier. Thankfully, her child(ren) are old enough now to take care of themselves, and are presently in training. She still worries about them sometimes, but that is not to say she's not confident in their skills; she trusts them to take care of themselves. Merenwen has always dealt well with stress, and doesn't lose her head, even in emergencies.
History: Merenwen was born before this war started. She was still relatively young when it began, and could be considered young now, especially for a leader, but she doesn't act or sound young. Perhaps her life experiences have shaped her; in any case, she's very mature for her age. Merenwen married her late husband at the age of 684; he died just over 100 years ago, another casualty of this war. Many who had worked under him were distraught, and there was talk of taking action to put an end to this war around the barracks for a while afterwards, but Merenwen had quickly suppressed any such talk. It is not what her husband would have wanted. Har'dro had wronged them by murdering their leader, and Merenwen wouldn't soon forgive them for the murder of her husband.
She assumed complete control over Su'aco's forces relatively easily. She proved her iron willpower and leadership skills, and soon gained the loyalty of the entire region, with only a couple of exceptions.
Merenwen soon became notorious among the troops as an active participant and teacher, sometimes teaching lessons in air magic better than their official instructor. She has nonetheless managed to maintain good trading relations with other regions, and is arguably the strongest and most stable leader Su'aco has had in centuries, regardless of her young age.
